Siena, Italia
Good morning. Last night was not as noisy as the night before, thankfully. It is another lazy day. We got up and had cappuccino at home. We practiced our Italian. Mary listened to some shows in Italian and I worked in my workbook.
Just after noon we went out to find the place to get our pedicure and manicure this week. Mary had found one online not too far from our apartment. We also were following a recommendation from her instructor concerning a place for lunch. Interestingly one is on Via Terme and one is on Via Termini. The streets are as close to parallel to each other as is possible in an ancient hill town. Although they look like they might be related they aren’t. Terme is spas, and termini is terms.
Neither of them are very far from our apartment. The spa was closed because it is Sunday. However, we know know where it is and it looked quite nice. The ristorante is located one Via delle Terme but the outside seating is actually located in Piazza Indipenenza. We have walked by and looked at this ristorante several times.
La Vineria Al Canapé is a very nice ristorante. Again, Mary ordered the Tortino di Polenta Farcito con Funghi as an appetizer, while I ordered the Tagliere di Salumi e Formaggio. We shared a nice bottle of Chianti classico from Primocolle Villa Cerna. We ordered a pistachio torta which looked really good from the Dolci Carrello. It was a delightful lunch.
After lunch we walked a bit while I had a cigar. Then we returned to the apartment. I had received a cal and voice mail from Eva Miller, so I called her back. Turns our my friend since the 6th grade and the best man at our wedding, David Miller, has been diagnosed with a malignant cancer. It was a difficult call for both of us. Later that evening I called her back while she was at the hospital visiting David. I got to talk to him for a little bit. Not good. He isn’t quite 72. This is when you begin to know you are old.
School tomorrow and the rest of the week. Friday we go to Firenze to see Serena and her sister preform.
Buonanotte e ciao, Enrico e Maria
