Monday

Torino, Italia

A nice peaceful day. Our only obligation for today is to make dinner, polenta, for Serra and family. I went to the breakfast room around 08:00 and had a coffee and brioche. Note, coffee not cappuccino. The breakfast spread was ok, but not anything like the hotel. Not meats and cheese, just yogurt and cereal.

Mary got up and we went out about 10:00. We stopped around the corner at a Pasticceria Tamborini (1812) on Via Garbaldi and had a proper cappuccino and brioche for breakfast. A nice little place, fairly expensive in a relative sense, but nice. Afterwards we walked down Via Garbaldi to Piazza Statuto. We are just walking along to see whatever there is to see.

At Piazza Satuto we turned left and headed down Corse S. Martino. Lots of old beautiful palazzos and a variety of small stores. We continued on closing the square by turning left on Via Cernaia.  That floated off to the left and changed names to Via Pietro Micca. We passed by the cheese shop, and continued on to Piazza Castello. It had gone 13:00 by the time we reached Piazza Castello and we were hungry.

We stopped in the brand new CraiGo. A smaller version of the Crai supermarkets where the food is generally already prepared and ready to go home and be eaten. A new concept for Italy. The supermarkets always have some prepared foods, but this is almost all prepared food. We picked up some water and other supplies and headed out to find lunch.

After some thought we decided to head back to Tamborini and get a toast. We know dinner will be a big meal. We go back down Via Garbaldi and get a toast at Tamborini and then head back to the room for a nap in preparation of making dinner tonight.

It had gone 16:30 when we headed out for Serra’s to make dinner. We got there just before 17:00 and began to make dinner. Mary worked on the vegetable “stew”, and I cut up the cheese and butter for the polenta. I cooked the sausages for Pietro and me, while Mary cooked the polenta. We all sat at the table and had dinner together.

After dinner Serra and Pietro got the girls ready for bed, we washed up the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen. We kissed the girls good night and headed off to our B&B. There was a little window of time for packing things up for the transfer tomorrow before we headed off to bed.
