Siena, Italia
Ok, this is going to seem boring, however it is what it is. We got up, had a cappuccino in the apartment. Then off to school! We were at school until 13:00 when class ended. We decided to go to Osteria Nonn Gina for lunch.
We have been here in the past and love this little family restaurant. Where – Momma Gina actually does this cooking. It is on the angolo di Via Paolo Mascagini and Pian dei Mantellini. It is really easy to miss.
Now if you are visiting you are going to have a little trouble unless you know Italian dishes. The menu is hand-written and difficult to read. However, it is definitely worth the trouble. The menu changes a bit everyday, so look for the new items. They are usually added because fresh ingredients were available.
The waiter spoke fairly good English and they are more than happy to help you out. We got a litter of the house red wine, which was very good. To start us out we ordered the tagliere di salumi. The board had six different salumi and a couple slices of pecorino cheese. Served with a artichoke preserved in oil. It was outstanding.
Mary had the pici pasta with pesto. I opted for the pasta carbonara. It is probably needless to say, but we may have been the only tourists there. It is a bit off the beaten tourist path. The whole thing came to €60. It was more than enough to also serve as dinner, even with Mary taking her leftover pasta home.
We walked back to the apartment. At four o’clock we were ready for bed, but it was too early. We went back out for a short walk and then called it a night. Unfortunately, it is Friday night, and the area we are in is anything but quiet. The street noise lasted until after 2 am.
Forse non un buonanotte e ciao, Enrico and Maria.
