Dakar, Senegal

Silence, sorry, it has been several days since we did anything. We have both been very sick. Turns out you can’t really expect to take anti-malarial medications for as long as we have been taking it. The supposed mild and not-often see side effects began to take place. Maria started with a cough, I followed and finally we were both down for the count. Stopped taking it six days ago and are now just recovering.

The coughing was so bad that I pulled a muscle. Went to the doctor last night and learned that several passengers were suffering the same way. Lesson learned short stints on anti-malarial medication ok, nothing after about 20 days.

Unfortunately, this means we missed picking up three different countries. Although we stopped there, we weren’t well enough to get off the ship and take an excursion, or even touch our toes outside the terminal area. Actually, we didn’t even see the terminal.

We started feeling better yesterday. Trying hard to push through it, but still not back to our normal. The directions for the medication indicate it takes three for four days to get it out of your system. Time is up.

We are going on excursion today and taking a cooking class. It is a five-and-a-half-hour tour at least an hour and half of which are getting to and fro. Senegalese cooking class. Tomorrow is a day at sea so we can rest if need be.

A Domani, Enrico e Maria
