Halloween, Saturday

On board the SS Mariner heading to Bermuda

Approximately traveled 192 nautical miles (218 statue miles) from Funchal by 05:30 on the 31st.

We pushed through the night. Cutting through, riding over, and getting hit broadside by the 3 – 5-meter (12 – 15 foot) waves. The scopolamine patches appear to be working. Trying but not seasick. During the Captain’s noon announcement today, he said we should be out of rough seas by noon tomorrow. We don’t really care, but calm seas make nicer sailings.

In the cruise line’s counting of a we are at Day 6. We think it is more like 5 because we don’t count the embarkation day. There are many activities on board, however we don’t really take advantage of them. At 17:45 they had an early show staring Chris Hamilton a piano showman. We went to the 16:00 tea; cupcake themed. The tea was good but the cupcakes were tasteless.

We don’t usually go to the evening shows because they start at 21:30, just a little past my bedtime. Nothing really changed to today but we thought we should go to at least one show, so we did. We are glad we did. Although we have never heard of him, other people have.

He started is professional career not as a singer, songwriter or performer but as a lawyer. He began playing the piano at four. He has won several national competitions and eventually won a scholarship the the Royal Academy of Music. In 2000 he left the law to concentrate fully on performing.

He stared in a musical revue written and emceed by Robert J. Sherman in 2017 at the St. James Theatre in London. He has worked on several cruise lines, including Silversea and Regent. He wrote his first musical, Over The Threshold, which won MTM Award for the Best Musical. His show tonight was extremely entertaining. It was well worsting going to.

After the show we simply went down to the Sette Mare for dinner. Mary had a nice looking veal chop. And I went with the veal scalloping with a lemon sauce.

Mary’s veal chop.

My veal

There was a Halloween Party in the Horizon Lounge, complete with black and orange decorations. They also showed the Halloween movie Hocus Pocus. We, of course, skipped those and played another game of cards.

A quite day, just sailing along.
