Siena, Italia

Our first full day in Siena. Thankfully not too full. Made cappuccino in the apartment. We went for a walk. I wanted to see if the street market was Saturday or Sunday, so we took off in the direction of Fortezza Medica where I remembered it being. It was the right spot but nothing was going on, so it is either moved or on a different day.

We spotted the building where we attended and opera like five years ago.But there was nothing to suggest anything like that going on again. On walking back I noticed a Conad City Market. I don’t remember that being there, so we went to see. It looked new. A really big market.

The funny thing is it is just next to a Penny Market. Conad City is a “Safeway” or similar market. Penny is more a low cost, don’t bother to take it out of the shipping box, just cut the shipping box down so the customer can get to the merchandise kind of place. We didn’t need anything, so we just looked.

Afterwards I was feeling a little peckish. So, we stopped at the Grand Hotel Intercontinental and had breakfast. It was really good and I felt much better afterwards. It was ridiculously expensive.

Then we walked to school to get our timing correct for tomorrow. It takes just over 13 minutes to cover the distance, just over ½ km. Then we took a slightly different route back, and it was more like ¾ of a km. There is no route, to or from school, that is “flat”. That just wouldn’t be possible in Siena. Even when I was living in the student housing next to school, I still had to walk up hill to school.

Afterwards we went back to the apartment and took turns napping. After napping we went out for another walk. This time back to the Conad City market for a few things for dinner. It just so happens that the chicken cordon blue from Conad City is fairly good. You can heat it on the stove or in a panini press; this apartment is equipped with a panini press.

We played some cards before retiring for the night. Tomorrow is a big day – the first day of school!
