Torino, Italia

Good morning. Today is a get ready to leave day. Tomorrow we are off to Firenze, olive harvest and then school in Siena. Mary got up at 8:30 and we went to the small bar, Caffé Cesare, on the corner of Via Vanchiglia and Corso San Maurizio. It is nearby and just opposite lav@sciuga (the laundromat). Turns out it is a vegan place. For the first time I had a cappuccino and brioche I could have done without.

We left there are walked to The Place and had a cappuccino. Thankfully it was very good. Then we walked back and spent the next couple hour packing and repacking. One of the three suitcases will stay here in Tornio and the other two will go on to Siena. As Mary pointed out it is difficult to pack for Firenze, nice clothes, and then working in the fields at the olive harvest and following this with going to school in Siena. The end result is that most of the nice clothes have been left in Torino.

For lunch we headed back to Caffé Vicarelli in Piazza Vittorio Veneto. We have eaten here before and liked it. Simple and inexpensive. We both had Risotto alla Zafferano, although we really know it as Risotto alla Milanese. Being that people in Italia are very attached to their home city and don’t like other cities, in Italia or elsewhere, and fully believing that their city is the best, not only in Italia but the world, they simply can’t call it alla Milanese in Torino. It’s an Italian thing.

We shared a salad and them Mary headed over to Lulu’s and I headed back to our apartment. I then made a couple trips with the “third” suitcases. There was also a bag of supplies that we can use when we get back three weeks. I took a nap and then went over to spend some time with Lulu and family before returning home for the night.

The status of the other two suitcases is: the rolling suitcase is packed and by the door; the soft sided suitcase is still open waiting for PJs and the like. The backpack is ready for the iPad and Canasta Cards. Ready to rock and roll.

Dinner tonight is simply a roll, two and took at lunch, cheese, salami, and apple. More than enough given the big dinner we had.

Ok, Buonanotte e ciao, Enrico e Maria
