Berbenno di Valtellina, Italia
Buongiorno! An easy day. We got up and went down to the breakfast room at 08:30. After breakfast we drove over to the parking spot near the Berbenno Train station and walked down to the Sentiero. We walk just a little bit, but Mary wasn’t feeling well so we walked back to the car. We should have taken our Humira yesterday and it has been two weeks. Neither of us is doing too well without it.
Back in the car I decided we would drive towards Sondrio on the south side of the valley on SP16. We headed to Fusine and then towards Sondrio. Just before you get to Sondrio there is Torchione-Moia a small village just before you cross the Adda and then under SS38. Here there is a parking lot and a place where they launch rafting rides down the Adda. Here there is also one of the places along the Sentiero where you can rent a bicycle to ride down the Sentiero. This is also the place where there is a pedestrian bridge over the Adda.
We walked across the bridge and along the Sentiero for a bit and then turned back to parking lot. We got in the car and drove down SS38 back towards Berbenno. Castione-Andeveono at the Iperal “market”, actually more like a shopping center or large Walmart. The purpose was just to walk through. Damilia had never been in an Italian McDonalds either, so Mary showed her how the electronic ordering worked. Not that they got anything.
We drove back to Berbenno and parked the car. Went to our rooms for a minute, then walked up the hill to Mariagiulia and Alfio’s for lunch. Mariagiulia made lasagna for lunch. Her lasagna is the best. We got a text from Pietro. He has to return to Berbenno for decanting the wine, well grape juice, and put it into barrels for fermentation. Damilia and I will return on Wednesday with him. It will probably be a day trip out of Torino.
Damilia and Alfio went to Boffetto to look at the apple orchards. Damilia was interested in why they grow them in an espaliered manner here. It is for easier picking and allows better and more efficient airflow. Mary and I went down for a nap.
At 17:30 we met Mariagiulia and Alfio outside Le Conti and drove to Morbegno for a passeggiata and aperitif. It’s Monday so many of the stores are closed but it was nice to walk around the city. Mary even said that she would be comfortable living here. We stopped at nice bar and went downstairs where it was quieter and enjoyed our aperitifs.
Afterwards we headed back to Berbenno. They dropped us off at Le Conti just before 9. We sat in the breakfast room and finished up our card game. Then we went to bed.
It was a relaxing day. Tomorrow we check out and head to Torino.
Buonanotte e Ciao, Enrico e Maria.
