No planed tours today. We did have another 2-day tour starting today, but decided we have seen sufficient geological formations, and needed a day of rest. Besides sitting in a bus for six hours in the dark, quickly doing four hours of tours while there was light, just didn’t seem right. We were however able to reschedule the SuperJeep tour looking for the Northern Lights. That starts at 21:00, so having a day of rest before heading out seems the logical thing to do.
That is exactly what we did, nothing. We did go next door to the bakery and have lunch. The lamb soup was excellent, warm and filling. This was tagged with the Deluxe Lunch, eggs, sourdough toast, tomatoes, and what they called an Italian Sausage. The “Italian Sausage” was really just a spicy hot dog. Very good, just neither an American Italian Sausage nor a Torinesi Sausage.
After lunch we played cards for a while. Most of the time was spend getting th e log up to date. Actually, we were waiting for them to clean the room. Then we went back up and took a nap in preparation for tonight’s excursion. At a quarter to nine we headed down to shuttle stop 14 to wait in the cold for the excursion. It had been raining during the day, maybe even snowing off and on. The trees and sidewalk were both a little icy but we made it. He did show up about 9:10 so all is good.
We spent the next four and a half hours chasing opening in the sky in an attempt to see the Northern Lights. We did see them, thankfully. Not very active nor very intense, but they were there. During the chase it rained, snowed and froze. It was actually quite a bit of fun.
In the upper right you can actually see a little bit of the Northern Lights. If you look early close at the lower left there is a little color. There was a full moon, but apparently that does not detract from the lights. It was beautiful and -4 degrees C.
The walk back was nice, but just before we got to the hotel is started to snow. We got back to the hotel and into bed just after it has gone 1:30. Quite the day. We did get to see photos of Grace as the Fairy Princess in KC. Beautiful.
Buonanotte e ciao, Enrico e Maria
