Torino, Italia

Another relaxing day. Damilia and I took the tram out to Porto Palazzo to do some grocery shopping. We are making dinner for Serra, Pietro and family to night. I downloaded the GTT app so that I could buy tickets for the tram online. We had trouble with this the other day but another try seemed important.

Well, that didn’t work out so well. Got on the tram, opened the app and pressed validate. The QR code opened but I still didn’t know where to scan it. No one else seemed too either. There was a ticket checker on the tram. I approached him, showed him the QR code and asked him where to scan it. He shook his head and pressed the screen on my phone.

The app went into a do-loop mode, and there was nothing there except for the little circle going around and around. We reach our stop and got off, he followed us. The icon still kept going around and around. There was another ticket checker there. We tried and tried to get the app to open. Including shutting off and restarting my phone.

Nothing worked. They said that since I couldn’t produce a valid ticket, they would have to give me a ticket. But, it isn’t my fault. I am trying to get a ticket, but your app won’t open. Too bad, so sad. Two choices, pay the ticket now, 37 euro, or pay it later 75 euro. Damilia had used her credit card to purchase a ticket on the tap and go program. They made her produce her credit card and checked to make sure she had used it. She had. Obviously, I wasn’t trying to scam the system. But, after twenty or so minutes of discussion, I gave up and paid the 35 euro. They gave me an email address to write to to complain, and ask for a refund, should I want to.

When the story was relayed to Pietro, he said oh we’re going to ask for and get a refund. I gave him the ticket and wished him the best of luck. Serra seemed to think that Pietro will be able to work his magic on the city and get me a refund. After all this is no way to treat tourists.

Damilia and I then walked through the market. We got turkey breast fillets, potatoes and Romano green beans. We walked back to the tram and headed for the apartment. This time I used the tap and go program was well. Why use the app? Well, a single 100 minute ticket is 1.90 euro, about $2.11. An all day ticket is 3.70 euro, about $4.10.  Ok, not a big difference, but if you take the tram somewhere, spend an hour or more there and return on the tram, it could be more than 100 minutes and thus you would need another ticket. Just easier to get one for the whole day, or at least it should have been.

We cooked dinner for the family. Damilia and I ate with them, did the dishes and went home.

It was a good day. Enrico e Mary
