Torino, Italia
It is another beautiful spring day here in Torino. Today we decided to go shopping. Gloria, Luisa, Amadea and us are headed to the Piazza Madama Cristina where the vegetable market is and that fantastic bakery. On the way we stopped at Torteria 40, on Via Giuseppe Mazzini, for a coffee and brioche. Thank goodness that those people just love Luisa and Amadea. Not so bad that they have really good brioche.
We got to the market and bought asparagus, sweet potatoes (called American potatoes here), apples, berries, and other things, and then headed over to Panificio Ficini Valter, on Via Claudio Luigi Berthollet which runs perpendicular to Via Piazza Madama Cristina, and got a couple loves of bread. It should be mentioned here, again, that in Italy you are not obligated to purchase a whole loaf. Some of the loaves weight two kilos. In this case we bought only a quarter of a loaf. The object is not to buy more than you will eat.
Then we walked back to Serra’s. We certainly didn’t take the direct route and probably covered 7 or 8 kilometers before we got back to Serra’s. Gloria took the girls and took them out for a walk. We went to the store and got a few things for dinner. We are having risotto with hamburger tonight. I had to make a separate trip too the store of saffron for the risotto.
We cooked dinner, Tiziana showed up at 18:00 and we all sat and ate dinner together. Afterwards the girls went off to bed, and we followed not too long afterwards. My distance walking is getting more back to “normal”. 16,500 steps on Wednesday, 11,200 yesterday and over 14,000 today. This is a good thing. Need to work on getting Mary walking more, however.
Buonanotte e ciao, Enrico e Maria
