Falmouth, England. Today’s stop is in Falmouth on the south coast of Cornwall. We were supposed to visit another abbey, this time St. Michael’s Mount. Mary and I were both very tired from yesterday’s walk. Although it is probably more about the flight and time change to get here. We both agree that we need more time than in the past to recuperate from a eight- or nine-hour time change, especially when coupled with a ten-hour flight. So, we chose to stay in and rest for the day.
The truth is we didn’t really rest. Oh, there was a nice nap, but most of the day was spent working on flights and excursions for the spring of 2025. Mary finally has a sense of what it takes to manage the airlines miles, figure out which airline to use to either maximize the miles or minimize the dollars spent.
In the afternoon we had a cooking class in the Culinary Arts Kitchen with Chef Karlis Clems. Karlis was an interesting guy. He has been teaching here on Regent since 2015. He resides in Seattle and Riga. Yes, they are thousands of miles apart. He was interesting and a fun instructor.
The name of the class as “Passport to the North Atlantic”. The recipes are from the Executive Chef Kathryn Kelly. We learned to make and present a very nice creamy lobster salad, sauce bearnaise, pan-seared demonico steak, and a blueberry crostata. We made the dishes and got to eat them. The blueberry crostata was served with a sour cream nice cream, which was nice finish for the crostata.
The class lasted two hours and didn’t finish until 6. We didn’t really need dinner but we joined Mike and Maddie in La Veranda for dinner just before seven. The place was packed. People were still trying to get in, but there was no room.
We ate a light dinner and called it a night. We have been warned it will be a rough sea tonight and we will not be stopping at Waterford as planned but would be going on to Cork. So they are figuring out the excursions.
Buonanotte e ciao, Enrico e Maria
